Yujia Shi – Doctoral Candidate at Chalmers University of Technology

I hold an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, specializing in Embedded Systems, and a BEng in Internet of Things Engineering. My background spans embedded systems development, IoT sensor integration, and digital twin solutions, with hands-on experience from international organizations and leading technology companies. I am passionate about applying digital technologies to address complex challenges in energy systems and maritime infrastructure.

Smart ports system integration

This research will develop a digital twin–based framework to support smart port digital transformation through operational optimization and resilience assessment of port call processes. The framework will adopt a two-stage approach: first, optimizing port operations to achieve measurable improvements in waiting times and berth utilization, as well as reducing GHG emissions. Subsequently, the framework will be extended to incorporate multi-layer modelling architectures for integrated cyber-physical system representations, enabling scenario analysis and “what-if” evaluations. Resilience metrics will be established to measure the robustness and adaptability of port digital twin systems under various disruption scenarios.

Expected outcomes will include both theoretical contributions to technology methodologies for maritime systems and practical tools for port operators to enhance efficiency while maintaining operational resilience, contributing to ports’ role as catalysts for Europe’s clean energy transition.
