Veronika Slakaityte – Doctoral Candidate at Chalmers University of Technology

Veronika Slakaityte is a researcher specialising in energy security, maritime policy, and the geopolitics of energy. As an MSCA Doctoral Fellow, her work builds on prior academic and policy experience at the Danish Institute for International Studies, where she focused on energy security and infrastructure politics in the Baltic and North Sea regions. Educated at Copenhagen Business School, Veronika combines political science with insights from sociology, economics, and engineering, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to energy research.

Green Resilience: How Ports Position Themselves as the New Energy Hubs

As a Doctoral Fellow, Veronika examines how European ports are positioning themselves as key nodes in the emerging green energy ecosystem—driving the transition towards sustainable energy and pioneering e-fuel pilot projects. Her research explores how ports contribute to shaping national energy policies and translating EU regulations into tangible, on-the-ground initiatives. Focusing on multiple case studies across the Baltic Sea region, the project investigates themes such as the translation of EU policies into divergent national outcomes, the evolving role of maritime ports as energy actors, and their emerging functions as para-state agencies fostering green resilience.

Currently, the research explores the sociotechnical imaginaries and narratives that shape energy security and resilience, highlighting the pivotal role of ports in these processes. Rather than following a single theory or method, Veronika draws on multiple perspectives to capture the complexity of this evolving phenomenon and to develop a comprehensive understanding of ports’ roles in Europe’s energy transition.
