Sebastian Blohm – Doctoral Candidate at KEDGE Business School Marseille

I studied logistics management and transportation economics and have professional experience in offshore wind energy. My interest lies in sustainable logistics, mobility and energy which I like to research quantitatively and qualitatively. Besides that, I like to slow travel.

Port Governance for Energy Ports under the Sustainable Energy Transition

Energy ports are ports that majorly deal with energy related cargo, meaning coal, oil, LNG, hydrogen and wind turbines among others. But because we want to stop consuming fossil fuels in the future, many of those ports lose their business model. One of the ports hardest hit by the energy transition is the Port of Marseille which historically served as one of the main oil import hubs for Europe. To avoid loss of cargo, Marseille Port is repositioning itself by attracting new firms with sustainable business models like hydrogen production and distribution, floating wind energy deployment and servicing and photovoltaic panel production among others. Other large investments aim at greening port operations like Onshore Power Supply. To make the transition work in Marseille, Europe and globally, I am investigating the best governance, stakeholder, and business models for sustainable port projects
